Chickasaw National Recreation Area Quarter
The 2011 Chickasaw National Recreation Area Quarter will represent the final release for the second year of the America the Beautiful Quarters series. This will be the tenth release overall and represent the state of Oklahoma.
The design selected to represent the park presents a view of Lincoln Bridge. This structure was built of limestone and dedicated in 1909 to mark the 100th anniversary of the 16th President's birth. This represents one of the highlights of the park and an attraction for visitors. The image appears on the reverse of the quarter, with a portrait of George Washington present on the obverse.
Chickasaw National recreation Area was originally the site of a reservation for the Chickasaw Indian Nation The area was later sold to the federal government for the purpose of creating a National Park. After originally designated as the Sulfur Springs Reservation, it became Platt National Park in 1906, and later came to be known by its current name.
The Chickasaw Quarter will be the final release of the year, scheduled for November 14, 2011. Prior to this date, the US Mint is expected to produce and issue 5 ounce silver bullion coins featuring the same design, as well as a variety of other numismatic products.
